The case Uriah

King David followed all God's commands except in the case of Uriah the Hittite. He sent Uriah to the front line to die, so he could have his wife, Bathsheba, who later became the mother of Salomon. He did wrong. The prophet Nathan told him so. King David listen to him (he didn't murder the prophets like other kings did), had remorse, asked God for forgiveness and accepted his punishment. We can read about all this in 2 Samuel 11 and 12, amongst other passages. We can find his prayer of repentance in Psalm 51:

... 3 For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is always before me.
4 Against you, you only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in your sight;
so you are right in your verdict
and justified when you judge.
10 Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. ...
