Christian music artists want ...

… to be mainstream!

For many years several Christian performing artists want to be part of the mainstream music arena. The mainstream music business generally is in many ways a dark and harsh place to be for Christians. In recent years ...

… the EMI Music Group has even been trying to get this done. It is understandable that a music organization as EMI would want this. But why would Christian artists want to break through in mainstream?

One of the reasons from the point of view of the Christian artist is to reach people with the gospel of Jesus Christ / Yeshua Messiah. Actually what for? Aren't there more than enough other ways of doing this? Besides the artists in mainstream have all the means necessary to get whatever information through whoever or which ever channel they want about the Gospel.

And, no offence to anyone, but what good would a half baked Christian artist, blending in out of eagerness to get into the mainstream music scene, do for or has to offer to anyone?

For if salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot, Matthew 5:13 (NIV). Besides, if the Almighty Father didn't explicitly send you there, you definitely won't have his blessing and run the chance of loosing everything he ever blessed you with.

So, why do you Christian artists whant to be in the mainstream music scene?

But, if the Almighty Father does send you, by all God's means go! Go, and abide to Father's terms. Make sure your motivation is truly God given and your faith truly rooted in him. For without his protection, I believe there is no surviving the mainstream music business. Depend on his guidance to learn whatever from whoever. There is no need to be part of all sorts of artists circles seeking their approval or recognition for your artistic work to be able to do God's will. He himself will take care of things. So if you are send by him, please be and remain in awe with the Almighty Father instead of with Christian/mainstream artists because of their talent and achievements, while being busy with the meet and greats. Not to judge and no disrespect, but just to give an example of misplaced awe, Dilirious? front man Martin Smith was so in awe talking about Bono during an interview I saw once on the inter net. It still seems to be available on Premier-tv. I wondered, taking other aspects concerning this particular artist into consideration, did he take a wrong turn somewhere? That Dilirious? - the band is currently not active - had the opportunity to make a cover on U2's Pride / In the name of love back in 2004, is no excuse! By the way, does people stand still for a moment to think about what have those they are in awe with been doing with the money they earned regarding things that matter to the Almighty Fathers will?

Starfield, by Fathers choice my favorite Christian rock band at the moment, recently also made a nice cover of a U2 song called 40, which is I believe based on Psalm 40. In my opinion and with no disrespect to the songwriter - he is the only one who actually knows why he wrote his song the way he did in the first place - the winning chorus of this song is empty. To me it just has nothing to say, not in relation to Psalm 40 and neither in anything of importance to sing out to the Lord. In fact winning about how long something takes is just depressing. The chorus is the reason in the first place I felt it wasn't a Starfield song. I wished the guys of Starfield would have done something about that chorus, and also about the underlying wining-music accentuating the “so long” bit. There is plenty of inspiration in the Psalm 40 (GNT) itself, for example you could sing of his ...

… 9 In the assembly of all your people, Lord,
I told the good news that you save us.
You know that I will never stop telling it.
10 I have not kept the news of salvation to myself;
I have always spoken of your faithfulness and help.
In the assembly of all your people I have not been silent
about your loyalty and constant love. ...

But then, maybe they weren't allowed to do so. And Starfield guys, please follow the path the Almighty Father has set out for you, so he can continue to bless you. Just don't believe all the fantastic stuff every body has to say about you, and don't be flattered by it. It's often only meant to real you in certain people's circle and away from the Father and his true calling for you!

So, Christian artists should be careful not to be seduced by talent, achievements and corrupted by money and fame in this line of business. Red Alert! By analogy with Romans 1:25
Worship the Almighty Father who grants the talent in the first place instead of the talented!

The 'be successful, God wants it' gospel, which is full of lies, is popular with especially Christians who want to be and/or already are successful. A gospel that teaches Christians to love money and people including their own spouse who generally speaking mean well, more than the Almighty Father. And therefor they are more receptive for the money and people talk, for their wishes then for God's will and word. Who are these people's prophets, advisors, .... anyway? Those who tells them what they want to hear? Teaches them to listen to their heart and follow their own dreams and 'good' feel instead of, to read God's word so they get their wishes and ways fine tuned on the Father's. People often do remember to love others as they love themselves, but forget the first commandment, Exodus 20:1-6. That is, in my own words to love the Almighty God and Father above all! As Deuteronomy 6:4-6 and Matthew 22:34-40 (NIV) also teaches us,

4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.

Jesus replied "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Doesn't this include even above ourselves, that is our life and selfish greedy needs? Christians in general just aren't free of the “wanna be rich and famous” virus, which makes them susceptible for all kinds of theories, even occult ones, and measures to achieve their not God-given goals anyway. A perfect trap, isn't it? For some reason it seems to be difficult for people to realize that being successful in society doesn't necessarily have to be given by God's blessing. Men may be influenced and get corrupted, but absolutely no one can corrupt God!

An even worse practice is the following. Doesn't some people even exploit the poor in order to have fame and/or get rich? An example of doing this in general is the micro credit. But in the music business it's also the image building stuff even some Christian artists do. So, Christians including artists could easily take the wrong turn, and still think they are doing God's work. Warning!

16 One who oppresses the poor to increase his wealth and one who gives gifts to the rich—both come to poverty.
Proverbs 22:16 (NIV)

31 Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.
Proverbs 14:31 (NIV)

Again, why do you want to be in mainstream?!!!

God's blessing?
Everybody wants God's blessing and they seem to associate this with the 'good' life, regardless of what God's word in biblical scripture teaches us. But, whom is a blessing to his people? So, I do wonder, which well known Christian artist has ever give a well known performance in Jerusalem, Israel? In support of the Jewish people, but also of Christians living in Israel. Or which one has been taken a stand openly in support of Israel? Even the band U2 - who's members claim they are Christians and who's lead singer Bono always said he wanted to use his fame to make a difference, and in many occasions did. - until now did not show their support for the Jewish people in any visible way. On the contrary, for whatever reason they even avoided performing in Israel during their tour. But, I do believe as biblical scripture says, those who bless the Israelites will be blessed!

1 The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country,
your people and your father's household to the land I will show you.
2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you;
I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
Genesis 12:3 (NIV)

I pray one day their would be by the Almighty Father's grace at least one well known artist who would dear show a visible support both artistically and with his/her acquired financial resources also otherwise, regardless of whatever any one would have to say at any given time. For the Jewish people are still being cornered, ill treated and/or ignored by many in so many different ways. Biblical scripture says, to paraphrase Proverbs 18:3a, that where there is contempt, and there is plenty of that towards the Jewish people and the State of Israel, there is much evil. If it's Father's will to put such an artist in place, this will happen! Now, to me this would be the best reason ever for a Christian artist to be send by the Father to mainstream!

Another thing is the impact the influence of occult practices - not to judge but as an example, just have a look at the work of certain artists, including their management (?), like Robbie Williams that is now leaving EMI for Universal, and there websites - has on organizations as a whole by causing or aggravating their problems. Whether done by people, Christians or not, part of the organization and/or those outside of it that wants a piece of it. EMI-CMG is part of the parent organization EMI, which sadly is being cut into pieces to be sold to the highest bidder. Of course you can look at EMI's problems from many different angles since they started a couple of years ago. Still it's a pity things are going this way for such a company. After take overs like that, companies are always forced to shrink. Think of the jobs of all those working for and/or depending on this company at this point in such harsh economic times.

By the way, what about an inter net artist initially getting his/her music across through inter net, not plucked from You Tube, but a real one. A project like that can't cost that much to set up can it? Meanwhile that person can develop himself/herself, and after people are actually really interested in the songs and music, then introduce such an artist to a larger audience. Whether mainstream or not, through radio and later one a noticeable event or well viewed television program. No contests please, for even when people win those it seams they get chained or caged by that contract for a long time. Unless someone participates not to win but just to get some more experience on a television stage in putting put up a show for the viewers. Including to be seen and heard in action. This sounds as a nice and really cheap promotion to me, compared to the one million record deals record companies are giving to starting artists. While the artist ends up in debt - so much for living debt free - if he/she doesn't break through, and the music/record company a couple of millions lighter. What a waist of money and resources. At the end of the day its the public, the audience which by the way is mixed and therefore also consists of Christians and Jewish people, that has the decisive vote.

Favourite artist
My favourite artist ever?
the poet, the musician 1 Samuel 16:19-23, the singer, the dancer, in two words the artist.
The one who was genuinely dedicated to God the Father. The atmosphere of his music was God given, as his music was truly inspired by the Father. Just like Moses song was given by the Father himself, Deuteronomy 31:19, 22. Remember how his music calmed King Saul, 1 Samuel 16:23. No fake, occult atmospheric influences added to his music as we can still hear today being added to music of several artists including sadly to music of Christian artist. Especially of those who want to break through to mainstream.

To this day David is the most known, the most read poet, having wrote the most sang songs being the Psalms. And a great source of inspiration to so many through ages to this day. I mean Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, nor any other artist has been able to beat that. How come? The man had the best coach, manager, PR, financier … ever: God the Almighty Father himself. He made David into the best and most renowned artist ever!

Why would the Father do this for him? David was faithful to him, knew him in all his ways - except in the case Uria, but he did listen to the words of the prophet Nathan when he came to speak to him and he had remorse and stayed on God's pad, 2 Samuel chapters 11, 12 and Psalm 51 - and he wasn't ashamed in any way for the Almighty God, 2 Samuel 6:13-14 and 21-22. God entrusted him with the music of his tabernacle, 2 Chronicles 29:25, 1 Chronicles 15 and 25.

The one who by God's grace is talented and also faithful to God by following his pad for his life, including in the entertainment business, the Almighty Father would certainly bless. Regardless of whatever we do, with or without a pay check. Really, we don't need to bend nor break, but stand! To take a stand with and for the Almighty God and Father, and his cause!

My prayer, also for Christian artists with the words of the song ♫ Hossana,

Heal my heart and make it clean
Open up my eyes to the things unseen
Show me how to love like you
Have loved me

God bless you,

The Nederlands-Israëlitisch Kerkgenootschap (NIK) has recently - since the 27th of December 2011 also in the news - put the Synagogue of Apeldoorn in the Netherlands for sale. The reason is a lack of finance for maintenance and restoration work on this historic monument. It would be really sad if a party that doesn't advocate for the Jewish people, their communities and culture would buy it. And put it to use for different purposes except for what it's suppose to be used, which is to hold weekly Sjabbat services, etcetera. Read: In the news: Synagogue for sale
