God's word choked?

Most believers would assert that in their life God's word is a lamp to their feet and a light on their path as Psalm 119 says. Life without his word is an impossibility to believers.

But, what if …

… God's word doesn't really get through?

You might say that is impossible. The Torah, Tanak and the Bible have been with us for many centuries. And they have been published and sold by the millions in different world languages. In our modern day it's more than plenty on the world wide web, the inter net that is. God's word has been studied all over the world, while it has been red on Sabbaths and in Christian sermons week after week for ages. So if God's word is available in such abundance, what could possibly be wrong?

Well this isn't about all that. It's about what do we do with God's word. Putting what we have bean learning and understanding to practice day by day. It's getting so far as to get what we believe in out in personal actions. As James once said, faith without deeds is death, James 2:14-26. And biblical scripture makes clear that obedience to God's commandments is a blessing not a curse.

So, what could possibly keep us from doing this?

... 22 The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth  c h o k e  the word, making it unfruitful. ... Matthews 13:1-9, 18-23 (NIV)

Its clear that besides the worries of day to day life, especially the love for riches, for money chokes God's massage. So seeking riches is the biggest problem, not being poor. This is a personal thing, a personal choice! When God's word gets choked in people, I believe so does the blessings and talents he gives.

The phrase that greed is the root of all evil is widely known, but that the love of wealth chokes God's message clearly isn't. Judging by the so many for example Christian preachers that developed and endorses teachings - gospel of wealth - on how to get rich and even abuses God's word to give it a false truthfulness. Would you want to be part of this circle of rich friends? No wonder Christianity is for a great part in disarray. Greed and occultism is booming. All in order to help 'the faithful' to secure a few dollars more. Plenty of Christian books and programs on how to get rich and famous. Please don't start with King Salomon. One of the things he didn't do, but his father King David did, was to act in accordance to God's user manual for kings written down in Deuteronomy 17:14-20.

Is there there a book or any one telling us how to prevent God's word, his message from getting choked by thorn bushes? Even if there was, would anyone be inclined to listen? There are so many excuses as to how to spend the money as the charity culture has been teaching us. Tell me this, if all the income-riches of the more fortunate were actually purred out to help and give opportunities to the poor and less fortunate, would there be any of these people left to pity and be charitable to? In this case there wouldn't be anything left to boost ones image and ego.

Does it say anywhere in God's word that being rich is a requirement to enter his Kingdom, the New Jerusalem? On the contrary God's word warns us in many ways for the problem riches presents to people when it comes to his unshakable Kingdom.
24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” Matthews 19:24 (NIV)

Whom do people with love for riches kneel for?
8 Again, the  d e v i l  took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” ...
His answer,
10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’[a]” 11 Then the devil  l e f t  him, and angels came and attended him. Matthew 4:8-11 (NIV) [a: Deuteronomy 6:13]

Greed makes God angry,
17 I was enraged by their sinful greed; I punished them, and hid my face in anger, ...
20 But the wicked are like the tossing sea, which cannot rest, whose waves cast up mire and mud.
21 “There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked.” Isaiah 17:17-21 (NIV)

But those who repent God will grand,
18 I have seen their ways, but I will heal them; I will guide them and restore comfort to Israel’s mourners,
19  Peace, peace, to those far and near,” says the Lord. “And I will heal them.” Isaiah 17:18-19 (NIV)

Yeshua / Jesus answer to all this?
... 4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]” Matthew 4:1-4 (NIV) [b:Deuteronomy 8:3]
So, we are not supposed to live by riches, visions, dreams, nor the occult or magic but by his every word.

Sound advice? Pile up riches in heaven, Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV),
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

But, you still want to be great? How about this,
... 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. ... Matthew 5:17-20 (NIV)

Finally what happens to a tree without fruits?
10 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. Matthews 3:10 (NIV)

Get all of this and more of God's word right in real life, and surely you'll be a good servant - Matthew 25:14-30 - that will not keep to himself but hand over to God all, including the extra earnings, that he had entrusted to you.

There are many other reason to loose track of the purpose of God's word to our life. Matthew mentions the lack of understanding and the piled up stones in our hearts which could be caused by people's lack of forgiveness for done grievances by others. And of course in the technology age we live in, we shouldn't forget the visible and hidden technology purred over us day and night every single day of the week.

To love God is to love his word. The desire to know it, understand it, live by it in order to get closer and closer to him, his purity, his holiness. This is more than seeking earthly happiness. It's seeking God's love and peacefulness leading to God's heavenly happiness in you here on earth! For,
13 I know that I will live to see
the Lord's goodness in this present life.
Psalm 27:13

To cherish God's word above all in our lives does show how much you really love him. Please deal with the earthly riches in the right way, Gods way. Don't allow the love for false riches to cloud your mind and spoil your heart. You should be open and receiving of God's word so he can cultivate you to be a tree that bears and continues to bear good fruits.

10 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, 11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:10-11 (NIV)

... 22 When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you. 23 For this command is a lamp, this teaching is a light, and correction and instruction are the way to life, Proverbs 6:20-23 (NIV)

So people keep loving and living by God's word. In other words, be good soil,
23 But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.” Matthews 13:1-9, 18-23 (NIV)
